Benjamin Britten wrote War Requiem as an indictment of war suffering. Every 5 years, the orchestra plays this moving work. This year too, this monumental work is on the program at the 75th commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem.
Under the direction of Bas Wiegers, with soloists from Russia, England and Germany, Consensus Vocalis and the National Children’s Choir, Het Gelders Orkest gives an impressive and memorable concert in Arnhem.

To ensure the success of Operation Market Garden, the Allied forces had to capture the bridge in Arnhem. But the light-armed airborne forces stood no chance against two SS Panzer Divisions that happened to be in the area. After desperate fighting and many casualties the Arnhem bridge proved to be ‘a bridge too far’.
