Operation Market Garden – Basecamp visitor days

Our base camp is located next to Schijndel on what was once Dropzone A, the location where the 2nd and 3rd battalion of the 501st Parachute Infantry landed on September 17th, 1944.

After Operation Market Garden ended, the front lines were static in this area until the beginning of Operation Colin on the night of October 22nd. Later on, an airfield B85 Schijndel was built just to the north-west of our base camp, which makes it a very historic location!

During the whole week, you can have a close look at the vehicles and you will learn in an educational way, on the basis of displays, about how things went in the war in your own environment and how our liberators lived and worked in 1944.

Not only soldiers life in or near the front line area will be displayed here.

To make combat possible you need a number of disciplines behind the lines, we will concentrate on these subjects. Think of logistics, fuel depot, mobile workshops, engineers, field kitchen, signals, field hospital etc.
