Offensive launched on the eastern Front by the USSR at the end of June 1944, Operation Bagration aimed to liberate Belarus in two months. This colossal undertaking, involving four Soviet armies, more than two million soldiers for 1000km attack area, was to be coordinated with Western allied armies landing in Normandy and then Provence during the summer. It will forever be an unprecedented trauma to German military history, which will its army literally wiped out of white Russia and lose nearly half a million men. The historian and journalist Jean Lopez, editor-in-chief of the french magazine “War & History” and a specialist in the German-Soviet conflict, will come back during the conference on this exciting event that decided the fate of Eastern Europe. On this occasion, he will dedicate his book : Operation Bagration : The Revenge of Stalin (Summer 1944), published in 2014 by Economia.
