Special evening performance 'Crossing Time' in former Camp Vught

11/17/2023

'Crossing Time' is an immersive audiovisual installation in National Monument Kamp Vught, created by Beeldjutters and the Theatre Machine. This installation invites visitors to become part of a poetic world where time slows down and reflection on freedom and history is central.

The images slow down time, forward or backwards. As a visitor, you become part of the installation and immerse yourself in the images. By switching viewpoints or perspectives, you decide on the role you want to be in. Do you opt for a detached view or would you rather be part of this carousel of light and movement? Let your associations run wild in an austere poetic audiovisual world built up with extreme precision, layer by layer—images where darkness and shadow are at least as important as brightness and intensity.

The creators of the work did not experience the war themselves. They asked themselves the following questions when creating 'Crossing Time': "How do you commemorate 75 years of liberation in our present time? How do you make it clear that freedom cannot be taken for granted in this world? How do you bridge the gap between rock-hard reality and human scale?" 'Crossing Time' invites you to reflect on freedom and draw parallels between past and present. You are tempted to let go of reason and return to feeling, to emotion, in search of the core of the unspeakable and unthinkable.
