#Exhibition - The Netherlands

Special WW2 exhibition in OUR HOUSE Nederasselt

9/14/2024

9/16/2024

On 14, 15 and 16 September, the collaborating image bank groups of Erfgoedplatform Heumen (Heritage Platform Heumen) set up a varied exhibition.

Next September 17 marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied air landings that brought freedom back to our region. The municipality of Heumen's 80 Years of Freedom programme includes components involving village hall Ons Huis in Nederasselt. It concerns:

  • 14 September: the start of a cycle tour of special WWII memorial sites within the municipality,

  • 15 September: the start and finish of a Bridge2Bridge run/half marathon across both banks of the Meuse,

  • 16 September: the presentation on aircraft crashed during WWII.

During these days, the collaborating image bank groups of Erfgoedplatform Heumen set up a varied exhibition.

In this exhibition, many aspects are highlighted that our region had to deal with during the war: mobilisation, the German invasion, the occupation years, hiding, collaboration/resistance, refugees, military entertainment, plane crashes and victims in (temporary) cemeteries. As a visitor, you will get an impression - based on authentic footage - of the most important events within the municipality. Heritage volunteers will be present to explain.

Special film footage is shown and ‘items’ from the WWII era are demonstrated. Special personal events are presented in separate showcases.

The exhibition can be viewed during the following times:

  • Saturday, September 14: 9.30 - 12.00 a.m.

  • Sunday 15 September: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Monday 16 September: 19.00 - 22.00 hours
