On Sunday 15 September, Veghel will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. The program includes a liberation mass, flag salute, silent march and the commemoration and wreath laying at the Airborne Monument.
Operation Market Garden began on 17 September 1944. Veghel was liberated by the Allies fairly quickly. This put an end to more than four years of Nazi oppression. Traditionally, this commemoration takes place on the third Sunday in September.
The commemoration starts with a liberation mass in the Lambertus church in Veghel. This is followed by a flag salute in front of the church, followed by a procession to the monuments on Kolonel Johnsonstraat in Veghel. The wreath-laying ceremony takes place there. The Lambertus parish, the children of Bernadette primary school and the Sint Barbara Gilde are participating in the commemoration.
The programme:
10:00 am liberation mass
11:00 am flag salute
11:15 am procession to monuments
11:30 am commemoration and wreath-laying
