Historical Remembrance Park Museum

The Museo Parco della Memoria Storica (Historical Remembrance Park Museum), opened in 2008, provides an immersive journey through the history of a country torn apart in material and moral terms by the Second World War. Between November and December 1943, San Pietro Infine, a place considered to be an important outpost along the Reinhard Line, which delayed the Gustav Line, was the scene of clashes between Allied troops and the Wehrmacht, which resulted in the deaths of around 300 civilians and the almost complete destruction of the town.

The surviving inhabitants were forced to abandon the village, which thus became a ghost town, to find refuge in the caves and creeks of the nearby hills. The San Pietro Infine community opted in the postwar period not to rebuild the town in the same place, and thus the path of enhancing the memory of the events of 1943 gradually began, resulting in the establishment of a place where the impact of history can still be perceived today. As a result of the restoration of some buildings, a multimedia museum has been introduced in addition to the path through the abandoned settlement, amplified by visual and sound effects, capable of emotionally involving users.

The Fondazione Parco della Memoria Storica (Historical Remembrance Park Foundation), which manages the site, has over time not only expanded the usability of the site, but also enabled the carrying out of a film festival entitled 'Stories in History'. There is a hotel facility near the site that allows the stage of the Gustav route to be used for overnight stays.
