National Military Museum Soesterberg

The National Military Museum (Nationaal Militair Museum), housed in the former air base in Soesterberg, is dedicated to the Dutch armed forces. The museum combines the collections of the former Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg and Army Museum in Delft. The collection on display presents many different airplanes, tanks, armoured vehicles and helicopters.

The National Military Museum in Soesterberg focusses on the Dutch armed forces. Attention is given to the past, present and future. The collection of the museum consists of circa 400,000 objects, from arrowheads of the prehistory and swords of the middle ages to contemporary weapon systems of the Dutch armed forces. The Second World War is also discussed. For example, a showpiece of the collection is the V2, the rocket used by the German Army to attack the Allied forces at the end of the war. The museum is located on the grounds of the former air base in Soesterberg and was opened December 2014. It is a merge of the Army Museum in Delft and the Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg. Around the year 2000 it turned out that not only the exposition possibilities, but also the condition of the depots of both museums were inadequate. Besides a large exposition room a ldepot building was also build, which means the collection will be stored properly the coming years.
