The Polish liberators greet the population of Sint-Niklaas in September 1944. (Kokkelbeekstraat)
More than a thousand Poles who resided in Belgium were present at the inauguration. Children in traditional dress are the offspring of Polish liberators. The "Polish Millennium Committee" was the co-organizer of the festivities.
The monument was erected at a place called 'Parklaan' in Sint-Niklaas, with the financial support of the cities of Ieper ("Ypres"), Lokeren, Poperinge, Roeselare, Tielt and Sint-Niklaas, on the occasion of the millenium of Poland and the twentieth commemoration of the liberation of Sint-Niklaas
